I agree, wayfinding should see more typefaces, there are plenty now (unlike 30 or 40 years ago, when Helvetica, Interstate, DIN and a very few more where the only choices).

I really like the new American highway typeface, the one replacing Interstate in several states, Clearview it’s the name — there seems to be a second one, called Highway Gothic, but I can’t seem to find more info.

I noticed this too last year on a trip to London via Gatwick and really like the change of pace with the rest of the signage in London.

All I saw was Helvetica and every now and then I was relieved to see something in Gill Sans. Not knocking Helvetica but there are other typefaces in the world.

I love the new slab serifs such as Guardian, Stag and Meta Serif by Christian Schwartz and Co. as well as Soho, Unit Slab and many others.

I can easily envision a world with more signage in these fonts.

Indeed. It reminded me of "World Record", one of the shorts from "Animatrix". Both have a similar way of animating the characters, by increasing parts of the human body and using fisheyed perspectives.

His statement is more an artist’s than a designer’s, as Saul Bass most probably is. However, I know I wouldn’t enjoy being an artist. I tend to feel more like Michael Bierut, who says that if there’s no problem, he invents it, as he cannot work well unless he has a clearly set scope :)

Indeed, the inner kid jumps with joy at the awsomeness of that Wolverine holding out the ear. I always wondered when I was little why they never showed Wolverine hacking something. I know, PG and all that bull, but it would’ve been great to let old Logan have some real action from time to time, even if with robots like Samurai Jack—they bleed in black, not red — huge difference, right? :))

I nearly feel out of my chair with the Van Gogh one!
Reminds me of the old frosted mini wheats commercial.
The adult in me appreciates the classical art references but the kid in me goes crazy for ears on claws!
